About Before You Go

Before You Go is a product discovery recovery tool for Shopify and Shopware stores. When a visitor lands on a product page and leaves without finding the right product, the app shows a full page of personalized recommendations based on what similar visitors actually purchased — rendered natively inside the store's theme.

Why this exists

Most visitors land on a single product page, decide it's not quite right, and leave. The store has alternatives they'd love. They just never see them. Popups don't help — they ask for emails, push discount codes, or shout urgency. None of that addresses the actual problem, which is discovery.

Before You Go addresses it directly: a full page of products selected for that visitor, in the store's own design, in the moment they were about to leave. Honest attribution that only counts orders where the visitor actually clicked a recommendation.

Who built it

Built by Sergey Zelenov, a Senior Software Engineer at MongoDB. Before You Go is a side project — built carefully, designed against the patterns of larger competitors I've worked alongside in the past.

A decade of working on ecommerce CRO tools and exit-intent products shaped the design choices: flat monthly fee instead of revenue share, native theme rendering instead of overlay popups, conservative attribution instead of inflated last-touch math. Different choices, same problem.

The flywheel

Before You Go runs on a small set of paying merchants and a free Starter plan. The product is the marketing — a merchant who installs, sees real recovered orders in their dashboard, and stays. That's the loop. No commission means there's no incentive to inflate numbers. What you see is what actually converted.
